
The hotel group plans to grow its portfolio to 150 hotels in Latin America and the Caribbean by 2017, expanding its presence to 25 countries in the region.
Marriott plans to increase the number of hotels in South America to 150 by 2017, doubling its presence in the region. The group thus wishes to respond to the demand of a growing middle class by opening 82 new properties for close to 23,000 rooms in Latin America and in the Caribbean.
On January 1, 2014, Marriott International was the third hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms, according to the ranking produced each year by MKG Hospitality, consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis. It had 653,719 rooms in 3783 hotels.
