French hotel group rankings: growth at different speeds [Part 2]

The ranking of hotel groups in France continues. Movements intensify in the second half of the rankings.

Hyatt Hotels & Resort  is followed by another American, Hilton Worldwide, with the second highest growth in the French top 20: +15.6% in keys, or 445 rooms opened, bringing it close to Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. For Hilton, too, the tailor-made solutions available through the conversion brands provide the flexibility needed to sign new contracts in France. A case in point is Le Hameau des Pesquiers Ecolodge & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton (48 rooms at Hyères in the Var). The owner had a very precise vision of the transformation he wanted to bring to his property, particularly with a strong CSR component, and was able to deploy it as part of this partnership. Tapestry Collection also offered the American company the opportunity to strengthen its presence in Paris with the opening of 46 rooms at the Belgrand Hotel Paris Champs Élysées, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. Finally, Doubletree by Hilton made its debut in France with 133 rooms at the Lyon Eurexpo hotel.

Choice Hotels International continues to lose ground on the French market. After a portfolio decline of 12.8% in 2019, 28.1% in 2020 and 19.5% in 2021, the American company is slowing the pace of room exits, with 446 rooms down, representing an erosion of 13.6%. The closure of the Comfort Suites Rive Gauche Lyon Centre and the Quality Suites Bordeaux aéroport et spa has pushed Choice Hotels International down from 10th to 12th place among groups operating in France. The American company has put the focus back on the French market with the arrival of Arnoud Vink as head of development, to restore a positive dynamic. It is also refreshing its brands to reflect consumer expectations and bring value to its partner-owners.
