Steigenberger El Tahrir Cairo

The opening of the Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir Cairo has a symbolic dimension: it allows the German hotel group to cross the threshold of 100 hotels in operation worldwide. It also marks the strengthening of its hotel portfolio in the country, where the group already operates ten units.

The development strategy of Deutsche Hospitality (former Steigenberger Hotel group) brings the operator over the symbolic mark of 100 hotels in operation. This strategy entails both entering new markets and strengthening existing markets. In 2016, the group signed for the development of 14 new hotels across three different continents. The mark has been crossed with the signature of the Steigenberger Hotel El Tahrir Cairo located on El Tahrir square in the heart of the Egyptian capital. It offers 300 rooms and suites, five seminar rooms and a reception room. It also proposes a spa, a wellness center and a fitness center.

“The opening of our 100th hotel is a real highlight in a company history that stretches back almost 87 years,” said Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Deutsche Hospitality. “It sets out a clear direction of travel in our drive for growth. Cairo adds an internationally relevant metropolis with millions of inhabitants to our portfolio. At the same time, we are filling in a blank spot on the map in terms of our presence in Egypt, the second largest location of our hotel company after our home market of Germany.”

The group currently operates three brands: Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts, Jaz in the City and Intercity Hotel. This operator has 116 hotels, 20 of which are under development distributed in Europe, Asia, Near and Middle East. On January 1, 2016, Deutsche Hospitality ranked 57th in the global ranking of hotel groups, for a total of 18,276 rooms, according to data published by Hospitality ON.
