Steigenberger signs a hotel in Istanbul

Steigenberger Hotel Group pursues its development in Turkey and announces the opening of a second unit in the country, in Istanbul, located near the airport.

Steigenberger Hotel Group announces the opening of the Steigenberger Airport Hotel Istanbul, through a franchise contract with Korcan Turizm Petrol Ürünleri Ticaret Sanayi A.S. The property is located around 6 kilometers from Istanbul's airport. It has 209 rooms, three meeting rooms and a ballroom. The unit also houses two restaurants, a bar, a fitness center, a spa and a swimming pool. On this occasion, Puneet Chhatwal, CEO Steigenberger Hotels AG announced: "The main focuses of our expansion are Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Our latest hotel project in Istanbul will enable us to establish a link between two continents and symbolises our consistent growth."

Until now the group has had properties mostly in Europe and operates under two brands: Steigenberger Hotels and resorts and InterCity Hotels. As of January 1, 2016, Steigenberger ranked 19th in the ranking of European hotel groups with 80 properties in operation for a total of 14,840 rooms, according to data published by Hospitality ON. It also has four units in its pipeline scheduled to open by the end of the year (two in Germany, one in Egypt and one in Oman). 15 are also under development and should open by 2019, mostly in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
