Starwood Hotels & Resorts strengthens footprint in UAE

The hotel group lauches the Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai, a new construction on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) has opened the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Dubai. Developed in conjunction with the Abdulsalam Alrafi Group, this hotel signifies the first new-build for Sheraton in Dubai in more than 30 years. Strategically situated on Sheikh Zayed Road, the property features 416 luxurious guest rooms and 58 suites, as well as 180 premium serviced apartments. The hotel also has a business and meetings centre, a spa and a restaurant.

"The Sheraton Grand Dubai highlights our commitment to the region and to our development pipeline as we strive to grow our portfolio by 75% in the Middle East by 2017."

On January 1, 2014, Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the seventh hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms, according to the ranking realized each year by MKG Hospitality, hospitality consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis. The group had 339,243 rooms in 1,161 hotels. (Read our report)
