Starwood Hotels & Resorts focuses on Hainan Island

The hotel group announced the development of four properties that are scheduled to open over the next five years on the Chinese island.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts wants to make Hainan Island in China, a privileged destination. Continuing its expansion on the Chinese market, the hotel group announced the development of four luxury properties at the destination that are scheduled to open over the next five years.

Having a presence on Hainan Island for more than 10 years, Starwood is inimitably positioned to cater to today's global travelers - delivering personalized service across a diverse portfolio of luxury hotels," said Qian Jin, President, Greater China, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific.

To begin, Starwood Hotels & Resort announced the opening of the W Retreat & Spa Sanya (450 rooms and 10 villas) and St Regis Sanya Haitang Bay Resort (400 rooms and 15 villas) at the North Wing of Haitang Bay, scheduled to open in 2019 and 2020 respectively. It will be the first W Retreat and the second St Regis property on the island.

On January 1, 2014, Starwood Hotels & Resorts was the seventh largest hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms, according to the ranking produced each year by MKG Hospitality, the consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis. It had 339,243 rooms in 1,161 hotels.
