Robert de Niro cashes out to invest in a London hotel

The famous actor climbed another step into the hospitality universe as he announced he is investing in the ongoing development of an hotel in London, after making his debut as an hotel investor with NY's Greenwich Hotel.

Robert de Niro, the American actor who became famous thanks to his roles in numerous cult movies such as Taxi Driver (Scorsese, 1976), Raging Bull (1981; it earned him an Oscar), Once Upon a Time in America (1984) or Goodfellas (1990), and is still running an active career at 72 -he made a remarkable appearance in Joy in 2015- just announced he invested in a London hotel project.

He partnered with the US-based boutique hotel developer BD Hotels LLC and London-based real estate owner Capco which has prestigious London real estate in its portfolio: Covent Garden and Earls Court. Both are currently undergoing major redevelopment works.

Provided all required permissions are obtained, the Hotel Wellington in which Robert de Niro is an investor will open in 2019 in a landmark of London's West End, Covent Garden, formerly UK's largest fruit & vegetables market. [For the record, the future property has no link to namesake Wellington Hotels nearby London's Waterloo and Victoria stations]. The hotel will offer 83 rooms, 2 restaurants and a Spa.

"London is one of the most exciting and cosmopolitan cities in the world. It makes perfect sense to develop a hotel that represents all of that in the heart of this city in Covent Garden", said Robert de Niro. The actor is not making his debut as an hotel businessman, as he already invested in the trendy Greenwich Hotel in New York's Tribeca district.
