London: authorities approve the construction of a boutique hotel at Shoreditch

The Hackney council agreed to the development of a new upscale hotel on the site of the current Satellite House, north of Old Street Station.

Blakes Hotels, whose current portfolio includes two other addresses in London's Kensington district and in Amsterdam, is behind this eight storey hotel development that will be located at 17 Corsham Street. The projet proposed by Kyson architecture studio, also located in the neighborhood, received approval from local authorities. A boutique hotel with a surface area of 5,200m² will thus be built on the site of Satellite House, an office building dedicated to communications and dating from the 1980s.

Works at the new property should begin the first quarter 2017, with delivery scheduled for the end of the following year. The future hotel will be part of the district's industrial heritage, using materials such as steel and brick: its interior decor was entrusted to Anouska Hempel Design. According to Blakes Hotels, the new address could create a hundred or so jobs in this fashionable East London neighborhood.
