JW Marriott opens a first hotel in the Caribbean

JW Marriott announces the opening of its first Caribbean property in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The opening of the JW Marriott Santo Domingo marks the fists steps of the brand JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts in the Dominican Republic, and also in the Caribbean. As its name suggests, it will be located in the capital of the country, Santo Domingo, in the center of the Blue Mall, a building with several restaurants and luxury shops. It offers 150 rooms and suites, as well as 9 spaces for events. The property was developed with financing from the investment fund FVI-Fondo de Valores Inmobiliarios S.A.C.A. directed by Luis Emilio Velutini.

"Santo Domingo remains one of the most vibrant countries for new development in the Caribbean," remarked Craig S. Smith, president of Marriott International for the Caribbean and Latin America. "We are thrilled to have partnered with Mr. Velutini on this project, and reveal our first world class JW Marriott luxury brand hotel to the Caribbean. This beautiful hotel brings the highest levels of accommodations and service to the Dominican Republic and is a great addition to the brand's growing global portfolio."

The brand JW Marriott belongs to the group Marriott which, on January 1, 2014, was the 3rd hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms, with 653,719 units in 3,783 hotels (data from MKG Hospitality, consulting firm founded by Georges Panayotis).
