InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) reinforces its presence in Singapore and announces the opening of its first hotel under the Hotel Indigo brand in this country.

IHG develops its boutique hotel brand in Singapore. The recently opened unit is located on Katong district, on the South of the city, nearby the Strait of Singapore. It occupies the former Joo Chiat Police Station, built in 1928 and offers 131 rooms, a restaurant, a meeting room, a fitness center and a rooftop swimming pool.

Leanne Harwood, IHG’s VP Operations, South East Asia and Korea said: "There is a rising wave of travellers seeking differentiated travel and an increasing demand for hotels that offer authentic and refreshingly local experiences, especially amongst seasoned and savvy travellers. Singapore has seen a steady increase in boutique hotels that aim to meet this demand for experiential travel and the global boutique hotel industry as a whole now comprises about five percent of the market."

Hotel Indigo has a portfolio of three hotels in Asia: In Thailand, Bali and this new unit in Singapore. The brand aims to develop nine units in South East Asia during the next few years. On January 1st 2016, IGH was the 3rd hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms according to data published by Hospitality ON. On that date it had 5 032 hotels totaling 744 368 rooms worldwide.
