First Rocco Forte Hotel in Middle East to open in September

Twenty years after its founding by Rocco Forte and his sister Olga Polizzi, the group portfolio is set to grow larger than ever as it expands beyond Europe.

Saudi Arabia will welcome Rocco Forte Hotel's first property outside Europe, slated to open next September. The 210-room and 94-serviced apartment Assila Hotel will debut in the country's second largest city, Jeddah. The hotel will offer four restaurants, two spas, fitness centers, and a rooftop swimming pool overlooking the city by the Red Sea. Aimed at business travellers and featuring several meeting rooms, the property should also attract tourists making their way to Mecca, just one hour away.

Until now, the group portfolio was limited to the European continent, where Rocco Forte Hotels operates ten properties across Belgium, Germany, Italy, Russia and the United Kingdom. The hotel group will expand to another continent in the coming years, with the opening of a first unit in Shanghai planned for 2018 or 2019. Once the Assila Hotel Jeddah welcomes its first guests, the group portfolio will boast a total capacity of 1,681 rooms, according to data published by Hospitality ON.
