Dublin: Gresham Hotel becomes Riu Plaza The Gresham

The hotel group Riu Hotels & Resorts becomes the operator of the historic Gresham Hotel in Dublin, which will be operated under the Riu Plaza label. The property was sold for 92 million euros.

The National Asset Management Agency (Nama) put the building of the Gresham Hotel up for sale last February. This agency was created to manage the country's troubled assets and prevent them from closing. This historic property of the Irish capital thus found a taker and will be operated by Riu Hotels & Resorts. The Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin hotel will offer 323 rooms and suites, 20 rooms able to host a variety of events, a restaurant and a bar. The unit was renovated in 2013, it occupies a building constructed nearly 200 years ago and is located in the city center, near the River Liffey and Croke Park.

This operation allowed Riu Hotels & Resorts to continue to develop its network of urban hotels throughout Europe under the brand Riu Plaza. The brand now has six urban hotels in operation worldwide including two in Europe after the Riu Plaza Berlin, Riu Plaza Guadalajara and Riu Plaza Panama as well as two American addresses in New York and Miami. Today, Riu Hotels & Resorts has a portfolio of more than 100 hotels and resorts in 18 different countries. The hotel group, created by the Spanish family Riu in 1953 is 50% owned by the German TUI AG.
