Belmond is continuing its development with the acquisition for $84.6 million of the upscale Cap Juluca resort located on the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean. Overlooking Maundays Bay, this hotel offers 96 rooms, 4 restaurants and bars, a saltwater pool, a fitness center, a tennis court, a library and a private screening room. The group's third property located in the Caribbean, Belmond Cap Juluca will be operational as of the end of May 2017. Belmond is however planning to carry out renovations and expansion work, including the addition of 25 new villas and suites to the resort by the end of 2018, which would bring the total number of rooms in the hotel to 121.

Roeland Vos, president and chief executive officer, declared on this occasion: “I am thrilled to announce the addition of the legendary Cap Juluca to Belmond; our third hotel in the Caribbean builds upon our heritage of creating exceptional travel experiences in extraordinary locations.

Operator of upscale hotels, rail services and river cruises, Belmond operates two other properties in the Caribbean, namely the Belmond La Samanna located on the neighboring island of St Martin and the Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa in Riviera Maya, in Mexico. The group, which recently launched the Belmond Andean Explorer (the first luxury train in South America) as well as the Belmond Las Casitas Hotel in Colca Canyon, Peru, expects to double its portfolio by 2020.
