
Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts is looking to expand its InterCityHotel brand outside of Germany and Austria.
The Frankfurt-based group announced yesterday an expansion strategy for its brand InterCityHotel that would multiply their portfolio by about 50%.“As the economies of Central and Eastern Europe continue to develop, demand for upper mid-range hotel accommodation is growing. There has been a significant increase in the number of business travelers in the countries of Eastern Europe. We are convinced that this region provides a major opportunity to advance our brand,” said Joachim Marusczyk, InterCityHotel managing director.There are already 32 InterCityHotels in Germany and Austria, and the expansion plan will target Central and Eastern Europe.Property developer PORR Solutions Immobilien und Infrastrukturprojekte GmbH (Vienna) will develop 15 hotels.Steigenberger is currently scouting for locations.“As the economies of Central and Eastern Europe continue to develop, demand for upper mid-range hotel accommodation is growing.
