Through its partnership with Portuguese hotel group Pestana, football super-star Cristiano Ronaldo is planning to open a luxury 151-bed hotel overlooking Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens.
Portuguese hotel group Pestana, already operates CR7 Hotels in Madeira, Lisbon, Madrid with properties signed for New York, Marrakesh and Paris.
Pestana CR7 Manchester is due to open in 2023, marking the seventh property under the brand partnership. The name is taken from Ronaldo’s initials and shirt number.
The project slated to cost £27 million involve the redevelopment of two buildings at 69-75 Piccadilly and number 67 replaced with an 11-storey tower. The property would feature a bar and a cafe, a basement gym and rooftop bar.
Pestana said:
It couldn’t be more appropriate – after all, this is the city where Cristiano Ronaldo started his international career in Man United back in 2003 and where he first used number 7. Besides football, Manchester is known by the music scene, the birthplace of the industrial revolution and one of the largest Chinese communities in Europe.
Pestana's wider portfolio of hotels includes sites in Berlin, Barcelona and Caracas, as well as the four-star Chelsea Bridge Hotel and Spa in London.
