The Swiss hotel group will be taking over operations of the emblamatic Sheraton Karachi Hotel after a management contract with Starwood Hotel ends in December.
Arabian Sea Enterprises Ltd., the owners of the Sheraton Karachi Hotel, has decided not to renew the management contract with Starwood Hotels & Resorts that expires on December 31st. Instead, the owners will enter into a 15-year deal with Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts. The iconic property will become the Mövenpick Hotel Karachi as of January 1, 2014, adding 407 rooms to the group's portfolio. The hotel will then undergo refurbishment. The change in management is apparently based on softer and more lucrative terms, and Mövenpick has committed itself to retaining as many employees as possible."We are in the process of transition, and we would like to welcome the incoming operator Mövenpick and wish the best to Starwood, who have served this hotel and the city for 30 years", says Arabian Sea Enterprises CEO Sikander Mahmood.
