Marriott putting two hotels in Iraq

Marriott International announced on Sunday that it signed an agreement with local developer Empire Iraq to manage two new hotels in Erbil, Iraq.

Erbil is located in the northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan and is relatively peaceful compared to the other areas of the country. The two properties will be a 200-room Marriott Hotels & Resorts branded establishment and 75-unit Marriott Executive Apartments property. The hotels will be part of a large mixed-use project called "Empire World" that is currently under construction and will include retail, leisure, residential and office properties.The two properties will be the first Marriott brand hotels in Iraq.A company spokesperson said it was too early yet to disclose expected occupancy or room rates for the properties.The two properties will be the first Marriott brand hotels in Iraq.
