
Luxury Dubai-based group Jumeirah, part of government-owned Dubai Holding, is planning to expand in Saudi Arabia as part of its ambitious plans to have 30 hotels in operation by 2016.
Gerald Lawless, President and CEO of Jumeirah Group, travelled to Saudi Arabia where he has been in talks regarding the group’s possible expansion in the country. In an interview with Arabian Business magazine, Lawless said, “We don’t have anything signed up but there are some very real possibilities.” He mentioned the group was particularly interested in operating hotels in Makkah, Medina, Jeddah, Riyadh and Khobar.Referring to 2012 results, he said, “Overall revenue we are up about 10 percent on last year and we expect to have quite a multiple of that by the end of the year.”Currently operating 22 hotels, twice as many as 18 months ago, the group is pursuing fast expansion, with a goal of operating 30 hotels between now and 2016.
