InterContinental Hotels Group has announced that construction of the Holiday Inn Express Rio Branco in Brazil is underway. The new property, slated to open in 2013, will be IHG’s first hotel in the city of Rio Branco, the capital of the northwest Brazilian state of Acre.
The 110-room Holiday Inn Express Rio Branco, owned by Inter Oceanica Hotelaria under a license agreement, is scheduled to open in late 2013. The hotel is to be completed in time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, an event which has lead to a construction boom in the country and the execution of several infrastructure projects. An increase in the number of both leisure and business travellers is expected. The city of Rio Branco will also benefit from the Transoceanic Highway, a major project connecting to the two main ports in Peru encouraging trade between the two countries and opening a market for importing food products and building materials.IHG continues an aggressive growth strategy in Latin America, where both national and international travel is on an upwards trend and where the group sees growing markets and a positive supply-and-demand outlook for the future. IHG currently has 13 hotels in nine cities in Brazil, the most recent opening being the Holiday Inn Express Maceio Ponta Verde in Maceio in Northeast Brazil. The Holiday Inn Express Belem is scheduled to open later this year. In total Holiday Inn Express has 19 hotels located in major urban centers and gateway cities across Latin America and the Caribbean.
