Meliá’s DNA, a way to attract and retain talents 

It is indeed a must; people need to be reflected in the company for which they work. There must be a marriage. Sharing the values and commitment regarding ESG makes a difference in my opinion. 

Nowadays, as it is so difficult to attract talented people, it is very important to give them a clear message. To make them chose Meliá instead of working with someone else. Our values are aligned with a clear commitment to environmental, social, and corporate governance and they make the difference.

Being a pioneer in several destinations implies great responsibilities 

We have seen what the tourism industry has created, not only in Mallorca but everywhere in Spain in terms of social and economic development. We want to extrapolate this positive impact in many destinations. We have been pioneers, opening destinations everywhere. We were the pioneers in Spain, in the Mediterranean ring, all over the Caribbean, and also in Southeast Asia. 

These are the locations where we want to concentrate our efforts in terms of development. 80% of our portfolio is in these three places that concentrate around 92% of the destinations where people want to go for holidays.  

It is very important to be very respectful, from the beginning, of the local culture and of the local community. We try to bring the best of the tourism industry to these destinations. Beyond simply providing basic installations, we also help in a way that benefits these communities. They have grown or have developed over all these years thanks to what tourism has brought to the destination. It is something of which we are really proud.
