
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announces a new property scheduled to open in 2014 in Taiyuan, a historic city in northern China and the capital of Shanxi province.
The 330-key luxury hotel will be situated along the Fen River, within walking distance of the central business district. Shanxi Jun Lian Real Estate Development Co. Ltd. is developing the hotel as part of the mixed-use Sumeru project, a development also featuring luxury residential accommodations, a private club and retail facilities.Fairmont Taiyuan is the ninth property open or under development for the brand in Asia Pacific, joining Fairmont Beijing, Fairmont Jakarta (2014), Fairmont Makati (2012), Fairmont Nanjing (2012), Fairmont Peace Hotel Shanghai, Fairmont Singapore and Fairmont Yangcheng Lake.Nearby convention and exhibition facilities, as well as a new major sports center under construction, will generate substantial business and leisure travel and demand, Fairmont officials say.
