Even before hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics, Brazil is preparing to host the teams and fans of different nations selected for the Football World Cup 2014, which will take place in 12 cities. 86,000 new rooms have been announced.In great excitement and confusion, Brazil is getting ready to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In a background of crisis, scandal, delays and accidents, infrastructure is rising out of the ground, for sports and lodgings.The current supply of 460,000 rooms in the region appears insufficient to accommodate the expected visitors for the World Cup. A formidable development plan, combining the public and private sector, is in progress, especially in the 12 cities chosen to host the qualifier matches for the finals in Rio.The plan forecasts 173,000 new beds, or 86,000 additional rooms, which should be operational before the start of the competition.Officially, the Brazilian government and Embratur, the Brazilian Tourist Office, are regularly monitoring the prices advertised by hotels in the host cities for the 2014 World Cup. The latest projections, announced in June, put the average price of a night in Rio de Janeiro at 461 USD, more than double the average price during the Confederations Cup this year. In Fortaleza, the average price would be at 335 USD, three times more than the average rate of 119 USD recorded during the Confederations Cup. To avoid an excessive increase, the authorities have asked the Brazilian Federation of the Hotel and Restaurant Industry (FBHA) to ensure self- discipline among its members. President Dilma Rousseff has set up a group to monitor the quality / price ratio to avoid any excess.The new supply will add to the 10,000 hotels, for 460,000 rooms in all categories, to surpass 506,000 rooms in 2014. Further investments are planned for the second large global sporting event, the Olympic Games in summer 2016.
