Vienna’s 7th district recently welcomed its first 25 Hours Hotel in Weghuberpark last 15 March. Its four shareholders are offering visitors to Vienna 34 suites with kitchenettes and the rest of the 187 guestrooms will open when the second phase of construction is completed in fall 2012. The six storey building from the 1970’s was in a “dilapidated” state until architects BWM Architekten & Partner gave the building a revitalized image by adding a glass façade to the last three floors. Developer JP Immobiliengruppe is planning to add a spa, gym, and conference area when the second phase of the project is complete. However, hotel manager Fanny Holzer is currently available to greet guests wishing to stay in the rather large suites (the biggest ones measure 42 and 56 square metres). There is a circus motif with illustrations of juggling clowns and bearded ladies in the common areas while the private living quarters have bathroom lighting similar to dressing rooms and fixtures that create a circus wagon optic. Ms. Holzer has a background in hospitality that includes a degree in tourism management and a prior experience at The Pierre in New York City. As with the rest of the chain, 25 Hours in Vienna is in the family of young and affordable Design Hotels and has its place in the budget deluxe niche. They are primarily based in German speaking countries and their next two hotels are scheduled to open in Hamburg Hafencity (2011) and Zurich (2012).
