Lux* Island Resort Café LUX* the best coffee culture experience a resort can offer.
Summary _ Our goal when developing and implementing the Café LUX* concept was simply to provide the very best coffee experience to all LUX* guests-and we now know our guests absolutely love it._ The hotel industry has taken some time to catch on to the fact that coffee is not merely a beverage but now a culture. We know that filter coffees or tiny cappuccinos topped with UHT milk are not what LUX* guests desire on holiday._ LUX* set out to put that right and asked Judd Nicolay and Carl Wessel of Cape Town based Deluxe Coffeeworks to become LUX* Consultants. What started as a simple idea turned into a nine-month process of concept development and collaboration in order to turn the vision of Café LUX* into reality: sourcing organic green beans, installing the roasters, redesigning the conventional hotel front desk into a vibey meeting place and above all, training 100 team members in three countries in the art of the barista._ Now, our own Island Blend is roasted by our own specialists at LUX* Belle Mare, in Mauritius (which supplies all of our Mauritian properties, as well as those in La Reunion) and LUX* Maldives; the freshly roasted coffee is served in Café LUX* as masterfully made espressos, flat whites, and several other speciality drinks, including our spectacular signature Frappé LUX*. Magazines, comfortable seats with a view of the lagoon and delicious little pastries and other gourmandises, complete the experience. It’s also available to guests with their complimentary coffee making tray in their rooms, and it can be purchased at Café LUX*, in our resort shops and even online (for home delivery), both as bean and ground. We often find an enticing fresh coffee smell wafting out of a departing guest’s suitcase! We can’t blame them, perfection is addictive!_ Please tell us why do you think you should win?_ Café LUX* is still very much a unique concept in tropical resorts, and above all an incredible experience for our guests. We were thrilled to work with an amazing innovative team of consultants and we had the great opportunity to create a house blend for LUX* using certified organic beans. Training the staff in the art of the barista and using the onsite roasting machines was a first for an Indian Ocean hotel company. Now for the first time in resort history, guests can order a cup of coffee that surpasses the best that the high street has to offer.
