Carolyn Handlon is Executive Vice President Finance & Global Treasurer of Marriott International. In this role, Ms. Handlon leads Marriott’s corporate finance organization overseeing the financial health and strategy of this $14 billion lodging company, as reported for fiscal year 2015. Her areas of responsibility include financial strategy and analysis, financial risk management, global capital sourcing and transaction evaluation.
By leveraging her extensive network of global relationships, Ms. Handlon has helped fuel the company’s growth by leading and closing multi-billion dollar financial transactions for the company and owners of its more than 4,500 hotels around the world. She is one of the key leaders in the structuring of business combinations, spin-offs and joint ventures. Ms. Handlon’s record of successfully navigating turbulent economic recessions and capital market crises, preserving liquidity and financial stability for the company has made her highly respected by global financial institutions, rating agencies, owners and developers.
At Marriott, Ms. Handlon serves on seven Governance Committees, including Global Development, Asset Management, Loan, Financial Risk Management, Impairment, and Corporate Growth as well as the Trustee of the company’s Profit Sharing Program. She is also a member of Marriott’s Global Green Council, promoting sustainable programs and services.
Prior to joining Marriott in 1987, Ms. Handlon worked for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation in international project finance lending in emerging markets. Earlier in her career she was a commercial loan officer at Continental Illinois Bank. Ms. Handlon holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and earned her MBA in finance from Indiana University.
Additionally, Ms. Handlon has served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. She is a member of the Standard & Poor’s Issuers Advisory Council and the International Women’s Forum.
