For the first time, guests at two test hotels by the brand Aloft may now talk to their room. Siri, the voice recognition system used on Apple's iPhones makes it possible..
If the test runs are satisfactory, the project should expand to all Aloft hotels, and eventually even integrate Starwood Hotels' leading brands such as the Luxury Collection or St.Regis. It is still in the experimental stages, because the installation of such programming for voice recognition requires heavy investments in high speed WiFi.
The idea behind the concept is far more than a simple gadget to stand out in a crowd. The goal is to make rooms intuitive by adding a level of user comfort that the guest can perceive. «This pilot version of Project Jetson is just the beginning," explains the Global Brand Manager, Eric Marlo, who already supervised the launch of technological concepts such as Botlr, the Aloft's robotic butler. According to Marlo, Project Jetson has opened the way for the first voice activated room. Perfected technology already integrates the temperature settings, sound, choice of music and light.
Version 2.0, that is already planned, will even include vocal recommendations from Siri for dining and, better yet Botlr will provide room service. Version 3.0 male it possible, according to Eric Marlo, "to program one's room remotely from the car thanks to a GPS connection, according to the type trip: family, business, etc.".
