The company was founded in 2000 by Stephen Kaufer and Langley Steinert. It allows users to post reviews of hospitality businesses, in particular hotels and restaurants.
In addition, Tripadvisor also operates as an online travel agency and comparison shopping website.
Tripadvisor is available in 43 markets and 22 languages. As of July 2023, it is home to more than 1 billion reviews of some 8 million businesses across the globe.
