Key figures
In 1983, the Central Group of Companies - Thailand's leading retailer - founded Central Hotels & Resorts and opened its first establishment, a five-star hotel in the northern suburbs of Bangkok. Since its outset, the group has expanded to Thailand's main tourist destinations, establishing a network of first-class luxury properties throughout the country.
In June 2007, the hotel company was renamed Centara Hotels & Resorts. By then, the group's brand portfolio included: Centara Grand Hotels & Resorts, Centara Hotels & Resorts, Centara Residences & Suites, Centara Boutique Collection, Centra by Centara Hotels & Resorts and COSI Hotels. At the end of 2009, Centara opened its first overseas hotel, the Centara Grand Island Resort & Spa Maldives five stars. Centara has since then embarked on an expansion campaign in the Indian Ocean, as well as in the ASEAN region, China and the Middle East, while continuing to expand its portfolio in Thailand.
The launch of Centara's brand new brand, Cosi Hotels, took place in October 2017 with the opening of COSI Samui Chaweng, which has 150 rooms.
