The McDonald's Board of Directors is expanding with the addition of three new members, including Tony Capuano, CEO of Marriott International, the world's largest hotel company.
Branches of related industries sometimes end up meeting, as in the case of the hotel and fast food industries. This is the first time that a CEO of such an influential hotel operator has joined the board of the fast food brand.
Tony Capuano was appointed CEO of Marriott International a year ago. The group operates more than 8,100 properties in over 30 hotel brands. A position that has given him experience in dealing with franchisees, which will be very useful for a franchisor like McDonald's.
The board also elected two other members, Jennifer Taubert and Amy Weaver, all of whom will take up their positions on October 1. The reshuffle brings the total number of directors to 14 and doubles the number of women.
The appointments follow several leadership changes at the Chicago-based burger giant, including the promotion of Kevin Ozan to executive vice president of strategic initiatives, Ian Borden to chief financial officer and Marion Gross to head of global supply chain.
