France: Consortia brands are increasingly competitive

The supplies of hotel consortia and integrated chains are converging, and their brands are increasingly competing with one another. Therefore, this year Hospitality ON analyses the rankings of hotel consortia but also their weight in the French supply overall.

In spite of a moderate decrease in its supply by -0.6% in comparison with 2015, Logis confirms its position at the top of the ranking of French hotel consortia and second among all hotel brands. The economy brand has a 2,174 hotels portfolio totaling 42,568 rooms. As announced in 2015, the brand now offers new types of accommodations (Maison by Logis and Insolite by Logis) and has tightened its hotel supply. In 2016, its turnover climbed by +2.5%.

Like last year, Hotusa ranks second among French hotel consortia and the sixth in the general rating, with a supply growing by +15.6%. Its supply counts 359 hotels totaling 19,222 rooms (2,590 additional rooms in comparison with 2015).

Contact Hotels, positioned 13th in the general rating, gains one position in the ranking of hotel consortia, with a network growing by +0.9%. The brand’s portfolio counts 284 hotels totaling 7,911 rooms. With this shift Châteaux & Hotels Collection, established on the charming hospitality segment, loses one position as its supply drops by -15.9%. Moreover, the brand presided over by Alain Ducasse is now associated with Romantik Hotels which enables 700 upscale hotels located in Germany, Austria and France, to be marketed by the network. Like last year, its shrinking supply can be explained by a desire to raise requirements to become a member.

With 117 hotels (6,542 keys) established on the upscale market, boutique-hotel and luxury segment, the Hotels & Preferences brand is fifth in the consortia rating, and 16th in the general rating. Its supply is down by -8.2% with respect to the previous year.

Citotel and Relais & Châteaux keep their sixth and seventh place among consortia, with a supply of 5,709 rooms (-18.6%) and 3,322 (-0.5%) respectively. Fasthotels succeeded in recruiting new members to produce growth in its supply by +2.0%. The economy brand has 75 hotels and 3,305 keys.

Meanwhile, Small Luxury Hotels of the World records a supply in strong progression: +36.2% (or 697 rooms) in France in comparison with 2015, through 48 additional hotels. The brand gains one rung among hotel consortia, putting Preferred Hotels in the tenth place, with 22 hotels on the French market. Its supply is down by -4.9%.
