400,000 additional tourists for Abu Dhabi

Tourism in the Emirate reached record levels in 2013, with hoteliers welcoming more than 2.8 million guests on the period, or 18% more than in 2012.

According to figures published by the Tourism & Cultural Authority, hotel occupancy in Abu Dhabi is up by 18% in 2013. They received close to 2.8 million international clients, which is 400,000 more than the previous year. It has thus surpassed the goal for 2.5 million visitors set by the Emirate authorities. The primary supply markets are Saudi Arabia, India, Great Britain, Germany and Egypt.

"This performance is very satisfactory especially since 13 new hotels opened in 2013 bringing 10% more rooms, for more than 26,000 rooms compared to the end of 2012," declared His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of the TCA Abu Dhabi. Today the Emirate has close to 150 hotels.

After registering record-breaking hotel occupancy for 2013, the destination plans to continue its growth trajectory and has set a new goal for 2014: welcome 3.1 million international tourists.
