
Tourism brings about 100 billion dollars to New York City each year according to recent declarations from the Administration of the State of New York.
The revenue generated directly by the sector in 2014 was 62.46 billion dollars in 2014, including immediate benefits to people and companies that sell their goods and services directly to travelers. The direct economic impact of this figure is 18.52 billion and concerns suppliers that work directly through the sellers. Finally, earnings for the local economy amount to 19.18 billion dollars and correspond to spending by employees the sector.
"A stronger tourism industry in New York means more jobs and more economic activity in local communities. That's why growing this critically important industry has been a top priority of this administration - an effort that, as this new data demonstrates, has been effective," declared Governor Cuomo. According to his administration, the number of jobs that the sector represents increased by 16% since 2011.
The State of New York and its famous city don't plan to stop there. The mayor of the City of New York, Bill de Blasio, announced at the beginning of the year that the City has a new goal: to welcome 67 million visitors per year by 2021, versus 56.4 millions in 2014 (including 12.2 million foreigners). Revenues mare thus expected to grow.
