2016: Worldwide Hospitality Report

While hospitality news remains highly influenced by the activism of Chinese groups, developers are also starting to look towards Latin America and the Caribbean. The hotel supply remained relatively stable in the United States and Europe. Asia also follows at a good pace, while Africa-Middle East marks a pause.

The figures published in this survey come from the MKG database, the number-one supply database worldwide and the largest performance database worldwide, outside the United States. Supply figures in this report have been obtained from groups’ key executives, from the MKG database or are issued from official sources of the chains concerned (chains’ documents & websites, SEC fillings…)

In this Worldwide Hospitality Report, Europe includes Russia and Caucasian countries, in contrast to our January-February European Hospitality Report, within which figures only cover the 28 countries of the European Union. The Latin America area includes Mexico, the Middle East and Africa area includes Turkey, and the Asia-Pacific area includes Kazakhstan. Since the 2015 edition, “extended stay” groups (and their brands) are taken into account in the overall supply figures for branded hotels & extended stay hotels.

The Olakala_Destinations performance database (OR, ADR, RevPAR) is updated daily. It includes more than 9,000 hotels (1,300,000 rooms) worldwide. More than 200 hotel chain or hotel property groups of all nationalities are present in this database, which covers nearly 140 countries and 800 markets. It is especially strong in the EMEA region, and is significant in all countries and cities presented in our reports and articles.
