Meliá signs for three new resorts in Cape Verde

Scheduled for 2019 and 2020, these new additions will allow the Spanish operator to add 600 rooms to its large portfolio in Cape Verde.

The Spanish Hotel group Meliá Hotels International announced the signature of an agreement to develop three new all-inclusive resorts on the island of Santiago, the biggest and most populated in the Cape Verde Archipelago. The Meliá Lusofonia Resort & Spa (320 rooms), Meliá Lusofonia (150 rooms) and Meliá Lusofonia Residences (130 rooms) will open their doors between 2019 and 2020. they will be located on the shoreline between the capital, Praia, and the historic port of Cidade Velha, a site that has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 2009.

The operator already owns a large portfolio on the market of Cape Verde, a tourist destination that is currently booming. Located on the Island of Sal, the Meliá Tortuga Beach (286 rooms) and Meliá Dunas Beach Resort & Spa (313 rooms) will soon be joined by the Meliá Llana Beach Resort & Spa (303 rooms), Meliá White Sands (835 rooms) and Meliá Salamansa (262 rooms) addresses. Once these properties are open, the Spanish group will have a portfolio of eight properties throughout the country. As of January 1, 2016, Meliá Hotels International was the 20th hotel group worldwide in terms of number of rooms with 211 properties for a total of 69,061 keys, according to data published by Hospitality ON.
